Type 3 Silt Barrier for Harbor Made in the USA by GEI Works

FAQ: Can Type 3 Silt Barrier Handle High Velocity Conditions?

Triton silt barrier for water construction projectsQuestion: I need a type 3 silt barrier for a harbor area. I will be doing some construction in the area and I am looking for a way to handle displaced silt and turbidity. This area has a pretty significant water velocity. I am also concerned about visibility. What information do you have on this barrier?

Answer: Thank you for contacting us! The Type 3 Silt Barrier is designed for rough water applications, such as areas that have high waves or high water velocities. These barriers are made with thicker fabrics that can handle additional pressure that is often placed on the curtain in these water conditions.

Unless requested otherwise, all of our turbidity curtains are typically made with a yellow exterior that provides a higher level of visibility and safety.

Type 3 Silt Barrier Construction

Triton silt barrier by GEI Works for turbidity controlThe turbidity barrier is designed to contain and control silt or turbidity both above and below the water surface. These barriers feature several different components that help to achieve effective control in your area or water location. Features include:

  • Top Flotation: The top flotation for this barrier allows for silt control above the surface. The flotation will vary in size depending on the length of skirt. Also located on the top of this barrier is a freeboard for additional above water control.
  • Bottom Construction: The bottom construction for this turbidity barrier includes a steel ballast chain and lower tension cable for complete control in your area. These chains help to lengthen the curtain and maintain control under the surface of the water.
  • Fabric: The fabric used for this turbidity curtain can include either a permeable or impermeable fabric material. Permeable models will include bottom filter panels that can effectively contain silt, while still allowing for water to pass through. This can help reduce the pressure put on the barrier.

Silt Barrier Information and Advantages

Triton silt barrier in 50 or 100 foot sectionsThe type 3 silt barrier has additional advantages that can help you with turbidity control in your water area. Some of these features and advantages include:

High Visibility: All turbidity curtains are manufactured in a high-visibility yellow. This helps barriers to be easily identified by passing watercrafts and vehicles.

Easy-Section Connections: Standard lengths of the turbidity barrier are available in sections that are either 50 or 100 feet. These sections are then connected together to form your desired length through the use of ASTM or universal connections. Dealing with smaller sections (such as 50 or 100 feet) makes sections easier to manage during deployment and installation process.
