Permeable Options for the Silt Curtain

type 3 silt screenQuestion: Does your company offer permeable curtains (lets the water flow through the curtain)? Do the permeable curtains rest on the channel bottom (from reading the literature on the website, it appears that the impermeable curtains are kept about 1 foot off the bottom)? How can I determine size, type, etc. of the silt curtains?

Answer: While a majority of our silt curtains are made from an impermeable fabric, we do offer a permeable silt curtain option that can help to filter materials as they flow in your location. These permeable turbidity curtains feature a bottom skirt that contains panels of permeable geotextile fabric. The geotextiles are placed periodically throughout the skirt to allow water to pass through the bottom skirt.

Permeable Silt Curtain Options

The permeable silt curtains can be built in two different ways:

  1. type 3 silt screenHeavy duty reinforced impermeable PVC barriers with a geotextile filter cloth in the middle part only.
  2. Barrier with heavy duty reinforced impermeable PVC marine grade flotation and a geotextile filter cloth ending just above the channel bottom.

All three different silt barrier types, including the Type 1 Turbidity Curtain, Type 2 Turbidity Curtain, and the Type 3 Turbidity Curtain can be built as permeable or impermeable curtains. Impermeable turbidity curtains are kept about one foot off the channel bottom to make sure the barriers don't get stuck and can still move easily.

The size you will need for your location can be chosen based on the size of your area and the amount you will need to successfully contain it. Sections lengths are either 50 ft.or 100 ft. in length. These sections are then joined together
to reach the length needed to contain your entire system. For more information, check out the Permeable Silt Curtains Options listed on this page.
